Writing Assignment
Topic: Write a three-paragraph essay about a time when you had to endure a physically painful experience like Robert from A Day No Pigs Would Die. Were you given anything to dull the pain? Were you as brave as Robert? What was your reaction to the way Robert handled the experience as compared to you? IF you have not experienced something you perceive to be similar enough, then write about a hypothetical situation and how you think it would play out.
Plan: Think about: What happened? Where? When? How did you get hurt? Who helped you? How did they help you? How did you respond?
In your introduction: compare the accidents (events). Is yours similar to Rob’s? How?
In the body: discuss your event in detail
In the conclusion: compare your reaction and Rob’s. How did your response compare to his? What conclusions can you draw?
Outline: Expand your ideas into an outline, due Tuesday.
Draft: Expand your outline into a first draft.
Revise and Edit: This means more than check your spelling. You should read it aloud and make sure your ideas flow and they are written in logical order. Editing includes moving sentences, restructuring sentences or paragraphs, and checking for spelling. Do this BEFORE you hand it in on Thursday.
Draft: Write your first draft (due Thursday).
Revise and Edit: Yes, do it again, taking into consideration any comments from your teacher.
Write your final draft: Make your writing as clear and interesting (with details!) as possible.
