ASSIGNMENTS
Assignments should take approximately 40 minutes.
Do all work in pencil.
Paper heading should include topic, page and numbers for study reference.
Assignments will not be graded, but I will always check them. If homework is not being done in a complete and timely fashion, I will subtract 1 point from your quarter grade for each missing assignment after the first two initial missing assignments.
Assignments are given to cement an understanding of the material, as well as to serve as an indicator as to your personal understanding of the material.
TESTS AND QUIZZES
Tests will be announced and will be given, on average, every 2 weeks.
Quizzes will be given frequently and may be announced or given as a surprise quiz.
On all quizzes and tests, all work must be shown, as partial credit will be given for correct methods. A correct answer with no work shown might earn only 1 point out of a possible 5 if it’s the method and thought process that is being assessed.
Mental Arithmetic Tests: These quick tests are designed to finely hone your basic skills. We will administer 4 tests per quarter and the grades will account for 5% of your quarter grade.
CALCULATORS
If I allow the use of a calculator on a test or quiz, you will not be allowed any helpful programs or any other such devices. All programs in this category must be deleted from your calculator before any quiz or test is taken. This is a math department policy and will be strictly enforced.
GRADES
Grades are given at the end of each quarter. We will also have a midterm exam and a final exam. Your quarter grade will be comprised of the average of your quizzes, mental arithmetic grade and tests.
EFFORT GRADES: Given each quarter.
3 - Outstanding effort and cooperation, beyond normal requirement of the course.
2 - Student fulfills the requirement of the course and meets the teachers expected required effort and cooperation.
1- Effort and/or cooperation deficient in some area; significant enough to adversely affect the student’s grade.
ADDITIONAL HELP
I teach A, B, F blocks. On most days, you can find me in the Math office for additional help during your free blocks. Scheduling an appointment in my day planner is not necessary, but certainly will be to your advantage and helpful to both of us.

A FINAL IMPORTANT NOTE:
The following is an excerpt taken from the Brunswick Handbook:
“In a community based upon Courage, Honor and Truth, dishonesty has no place. Thus, while Brunswick school does not have a formal Honor Code, our school community is based upon the concept of honor in all our dealings. In tis context, students must be committed to their own personal integrity and be clear regarding the following definitions;
DISHONESTY is the willful perversion of the truth with the intent to deceive.
CHEATING is the willful giving or receiving of any unfair advantage on any academic exercise.
PLAGIARISM is the submission of work as one’s own any part of which is:
-written or created by another
-copied or paraphrased from any source without proper citation
-based upon an idea unique to another source without proper acknowledgement.”
