Materiales y reglas de la clase
Textbook: Exprésate 1B (blue) – Chapters 8, 9, and 10
Spanish-English Pocket Dictionary
Workbooks: (CA) Cuaderno de Actividades 1B
(CVG) Cuaderno de Vocabulario y Gramática 1B
Following a brief review of concepts learned in previous grades, this course will introduce students to new vocabulary and a new tense: the preterit, essential to talk and write about past activities.
In addition to the books, students will need one binder (exclusive for Spanish) with six dividers, which will be labeled in class, as well as a pocket-size Spanish-English dictionary.
Every Monday students will read “La gran aventura de Alejandro” by Abby Kanter, the entertaining story of a Mexican boy -on vacation in Spain-, who comes in contact with a magic ring which enables him to travel in time and space and become acquainted with Spanish art, history, and literature.
ASSESSMENT
There will be 8/9 quizzes (single grade) and one test (double grade) per chapter, which will assess mastery of all four skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Comprehensive exams will close the first and third trimesters, and a project will be assigned and developed during second trimester. In addition there will be compositions, paired skits, and oral presentations.
A participation/oral grade (valued at 10% of the trimester average) will be given twice every marking period, and is determined by a student’s willingness to speak in Spanish at all times (to the best of his ability), focus on class work, punctuality, preparation, and general behavior.
HOMEWORK
Homework will be assigned every night, from either Workbook, or from the reader. On occasion there will be special assignments such as writing a composition, preparing an oral skit, or developing a mini-project. It will be collected at random dates, and graded as 10% of the trimester grade. Late homework will not be accepted.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Trust being the cornerstone of the Brunswick community, all dealings between students and teacher are expected to be direct and truthful.
ALL work, whether done in or out of the language classroom, i.e. homework, projects, compositions, quizzes and tests, etc., must be completely original. Seeking the aid of online or software translation will be regarded as cheating. Make-up tests must be taken within two days of the student’s return to school and without prior knowledge of specific examination material derived from communication with other students.
