AGREEMENT

 

  1. GENDER: As you know, in Spanish, all nouns are classified as masculine or feminine. In general, a noun is masculine if it ends in –O or if it refers to a man, regardless of its ending. A noun is feminine if it ends in –A or refers to a woman. There are also nouns that end in –E or a consonant; you must learn the gender of the nouns on a case by case basis.

 

  1. NUMBER: A noun that refers to just one person or thing is SINGULAR; one that refers to two or more is PLURAL.

 

  1. LOS ADJETIVOS: In Spanish, adjectives are said to agree with the nouns they modify; this means that you must choose an adjective ending that matches the noun in number (singular or plural) and gender (masculine or feminine).

 

  1. RULES:

  1. If the adj. ends in –o à Change –o to –A; ex. Rojo à roja
  2. If the adj. ends in a consonant or -E à Does not change; ex. Azul, verde

 

*****NUMBER

1. If the noun ends in a vowel à ADD –S

2. If the noun ends in a consonant à ADD -ES
