TEXAS:

  • Located on the southern part of the USA. It is the second largest state of the United States.
  • Texas borders are:
    • Oklahoma on the north.
    • Mexico on the south.
    • Gulf of Mexico on the east.
    • New Mexico on the west.
  • The history of Texas:
    • The Spanish explorer Cabeza de Vaca was the first European to set foot in Texas. Texas then becomes part of Spain, a colony of the Spanish empire in the 1500’s à Spanish flag.
    • Then at the beginning of the 1800’s Texas became part of Mexico when Mexico won its independence from Spain à Mexican flag.
    • Then Texas become and independent republic: The Republic of Texas à Texan flag.
    •  By 1845 Texas become the 28th state of the USA à American flag.
  • Capital: Austin.
  • Texas name comes from the indigenous tribe Caddo and it means “friend”.
  • El Rio Grande forms the entire length of the Texas-Mexico border.
  • Dallas is an international business center.
  • San Antonio is famous for its River-walk and the Spanish missions there.
  • El Alamo is also located in San Antonio and it is the site of the famous battle.
  • Houston has a large quantity of international maritime business.
  • The most typical meal in Texas is the barbeque.
  • Ruby Red grapefruits are the official state fruit of Texas.
  • Big Bend National Park comes from the large U shape formed by the Rio Grande.
  • The central and Great Plains are home to some of the largest ranches in the United States.
  • Texas is a very diverse state and has a very rich history.
  • In the arts, architecture, food and celebrations there is a clear mixture of the different cultures that Texas is been through à Spanish, Mexican and North American.
