Gustar: Used to express likes, dislikes, things you like or love. They are used NOT with the regular subject pronouns but with the INDIRECT OBJECT PRONOUNS:

Yo = me

Tú = te

Él/ella/usted = le

Nosotros = nos

Vosotros = os

Ellos/ellas/ustedes = les

When gustar is follow by a singular noun you always used the singular form:

-          Gusta + singular noun:

o       A Maria le gusta el chocolate = Maria likes chocolate.

o       ¿Te gusta la profesora? = Do you like the teacher?

o       A Tomás le gusta el parque = Thomas likes the park.

 

When gustar is follow by a plural noun you always used the plural form:

Pronouns after prepositions:

After prepositions like a (to), con (with), de (of, from, about) and en (in, on, at) the pronouns yo and change to and . All the other subject pronouns stay the same

To emphasize or clarify who likes something, add a + pronoun to a sentence with gustar: A mí me gusta patinar – I like to skate

 

 

El artículo indefinido = the indefinite article: It is used to talk about a non specific noun. It agrees in gender and number with the noun. It can sometimes be left out for plural nouns.

El artículo definido = The definite article: It is used to talk about an specific noun. It agrees in gender and number with the noun.

¿Por qué? and  porque:

-          ¿Por qué? Means Why.

o       It is two separate words.

o       It has the two question marks.

o       It has an accent in the last e

-          Porque means because.

o       It is only one word.

o       It does not have the question marks.

o       It does not have an accent.

 

¿Por qué te gusta el helado? --- Why do you like ice-cream?

Me gusta porque es delicioso --- I like it because it is delicious.

 

The preposition de:

The preposition “de” has three uses:

 

  1. It is used to tell where someone is from.

          Andy es de España – Andy is from Spain.

 

  1. It is used to tell what type of thing you are describing.

          El helado de chocolate – Chocolate ice-cream.

 

  1. It is used to show possession.

     El libro de Brian – Brian’s book.

 

When you show possession “de” might be follow by a definite article. In the case of a singular masculine noun it becomes “del” à de + el = del
