Subjects and verbs in sentences (text book pg.12): 

The subject of a sentence is the person, place or thing being described or performing an action. The subject can be a noun or a pronoun – subject pronoun. The pronoun is the word that replaces the noun in the sentence. In Spanish the subject can be left out but not in English. 

La señora Paternina es profesora de español. Ella es de España. / Es de España. Mrs. Paternina is a Spanish teacher. She is from Spain.

The verb is the action the subject is performing or the word that connects the subject to a description.

Ana es profesora.            Yo soy de Madrid

Ana is a teacher.              I am from Madrid.

Subject pronouns (text book pg.14):

Singular: one person

First person of the singular  --  Yo à I

Second person of the singular -- Tú (familiar) à you

Second person of the singular -- Usted (formal) à you

Third person of the singular –- Él à he

Third person of the singular – Ella à she

 

Plural: more than one person

1st. person of the  plural - males or males and females group         

Nosotros à  we

1st. person of the plural - all female group

2nd. Person of the plural - all males or males and females group –Spain    only
