Class Expectations
Through the use of texts, literary works, audio and
video resources as well as other mediums, we will
augment our capabilities as students of French language
and culture. We will come to class each day prepared to
build on all skills we have gained to date. We will be
willing to explore, unafraid to make mistakes and
curious about the possibilities that lie before us.
Objectives
To further understanding and appreciation for the
French language and francophone culture
To be able to write and read competently in a
level-appropriate fashion, including fluency in all
tenses; to be able to write a well-organized five
paragraph composition
To be able to express oneself orally in familiar
contexts, i.e. introductions, offering invitations,
asking/giving directions, recounting experiences, etc
and to keep all class communication in French
To further listening comprehension so as to comprehend
authentic French conversations and dialogue
To be creative in the use of the target language for
original presentations, projects, etc
Homework, Quizzes
and Tests
Homework will be completed on a daily basis; correct
answers will be given to all homework exercises.
Homework will often serve as the basis for quizzes. It
is always important to show effort by writing down
exercises, simply saying “I didn’t get it,” without
having written anything down will be considered the
same as not having done the assignment. Also, all
written work done at home should be your own (not that
of a family member or tutor)
Quizzes will be announced and may take place 1-2 times
a week
Tests will be announced a week in advance and are worth
3 quizzes. They may be given in class or take the form
of out of class projects. (tests and quizzes will be
written, listening and speaking or some combination of
the three)
You are encouraged to see me about the possibility of
doing corrections on tests and quizzes
Absolutely no electronic translators are to be used.
Any usage will be considered cheating (see Departmental
guidelines on Wicknet)
Quarter grades will be determined by the average of
tests and quizzes in addition to my evaluation of your
homework and in-class participation efforts.
Should you be absent, you are responsible for making up
any work we have done by the appropriate due dates.
Please email me to touch base. If you miss a test or a
quiz, it is your obligation to reschedule it with me in
the next two school days of your return.
Please email me if questions arise, I will respond to
all emails within 24 hours, (thus an email about the
night’s homework should not be an excuse not to
complete an assignment). I am more than happy to meet
with you for extra help and urge you to seek me out if
the need arises. It goes without saying that you must
arrive on time, be in dress code each day, without food
or gum and with cell phones turned off!
