Seventh Grade/Français 107

Course Description

This course continues to build the fundamental language skills introduced and learned in the two previous years of formal instruction.  It builds upon the gains students made in communication skills the previous year, and continues to develop their aural/oral and writing skills.  The material emphasizes the culture of the French-speaking world.  This course is communication-based and daily instruction is fully technologically integrated.  Writing, speaking, listening and reading are emphasized in equal measure and mastery of the content is anticipated. Yet, constant repetition of material is intrinsic to foreign language instruction; vocabulary and grammar concepts will be reviewed in the 8th grade as new material is introduced.  The vocabulary is an expansion of previous topics as well as further exploring daily life of young francophones.  In grammar, new verbs will include “aller” as well as certain groups of –re and –ir verbs.  Contractions, stress pronouns, uses of “de” and the demonstrative and interrogative pronouns are also included. Cultural content reinforces the thematic vocabulary.  Methodology includes repetition, video-directed speaking exercises, writing and performing skits in pairs or groups and writing activities.  We use the Discovering French Nouveau program, which includes a text, workbook, DVD program and a significant interactive website for oral, aural, and reading comprehension practice.  In the seventh grade, we cover units 5-8 (16 lessons) to finish the second level one textbook. (Bleu – Deuxième Partie).

We use the Discovering French Bleu (Deuxième Partie) text, workbook, and DVDs.  We will finish that text this year.
