Arabic and French, upper school

Brunswick and Greenwich Academy Arabic students took a trip to a Yemeni restaurant in Brooklyn, New York on November 6, 2006.

Arabic

Arabic is an increasingly important language for American students to learn in college, and high school.  An array of jobs is available for people who know Arabic, in highly competitive fields, such as intelligence, business, government, and international relations.  Knowing Arabic is advantageous to students when they apply for college, and begin a career in one of these fields (and many other fields).

I am thrilled to be able to teach Arabic to high school students.  Arabic is not one of the traditional languages students learn in high school, and that makes it all the more interesting for both the students and myself.

Arabic is a unique language, and is very different from English.  It has a different alphabet and different grammar rules.   However, Arabic is a widely-spoken language.  Students who know Arabic can travel to and work in places all over the Middle East and North Africa, knowing how to communicate with people there in their native language.

My goal in teaching Arabic in Brunswick is to not only teach students the language, including all the grammar rules, but to make them fluent in Arabic, and aware of the history and culture of the people in the world who speak Arabic.
