THE BRUNSWICK BOOKSHARE PROJECT

The 6th and 7th grades are participating in a year-long effort to teach reading skills to the 1st and 3rd graders at the Holy Rosary School, in Port Chester, New York.

Each month, a different advisory travels to Holy Rosary School with chapter books provided by Brunswick.  The students there, predominantly Hispanic, eagerly await the arrival of their Brunswick "Big Brothers".

The 5th grade has initiated their own program of outreach, sending teams of "big brothers" each month to the Family Center, Arch Street.  They read and work with the pre-schoolers there, bringing the Brunswick spirit out into the community.

See below for a schedule of these community service visits.

Schedule of 6th and 7th Grade Advisory Visits to Holy Rosary School. Students will have lunch at Brunswick and return at 2:45 for pick-up. These visits will be scheduled by the Community Service Task Force

The community service task force was organized in January, 2007, in order to provide students with the opportunity to go out in to the community on a volunteer basis with parent chaperones.

All Eighth Grade advisories take part in a year-long community service project with a specific site that they visit each month. A separate letter has been sent to eighth grade parents with the dates and times for these visits.
