CLASS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Homework: Reading is done at the individual student's discretion with the pattern and pace being the completion of one chapter per week. By the last class day of each week, each student will be expected to have completed the chapter as assigned above and to be familiar with all that it covered. Written homework will usually be in the form of essays or DBQs. Usually, DBQ responses will be due on the first class of the week. Late homework will not be accepted.
Notes: Students are not required to take reading notes, however they may do so if they wish. Students are required to take careful class notes.
Lap-Tops: Students are required to submit all papers in word-processed format (default settings, 12 font) but are not permitted to have lap-tops “up and open” during class. All class notes should be taken in free-hand in a loose-leaf binder.
Class Participation: Class participation is essential and assumed. Students will be given a bonus on their Quarter average for above average classroom participation.
Quizzes: Quizzes will be frequent, brief and unannounced. They will require familiarity both with the class discussions as well as with assigned reading material.
Tests: All tests will cover both the reading as well as the additional material previously covered in class. Tests on a given chapter will be administered toward the end of each week (often mid-way through a class). Any tests missed because of absence must be made up promptly upon return to school. A general rule will be that a student will be given as many days to make up a test or other work as he/she was out of school.
Grading: The following will be components of each student's quarter average (listed in descending order of importance):
Tests
Papers
Quizzes
