Extra credit opportunities (for those driven to overachievement) - I'll help...

1)      trace the history of lawsuits vs. a given company

     2)    do a statistical analysis of gender bias in board games

     3)    compare a news story from more than one medium (eg. newspaper article , news magazine, internet site, etc.

     4)    compare the structure of two or more local news broadcasts (watching at 11PM three successive nights)

     5)    study banned commercials

     6)    look at powerful political commercials (mushroom cloud, revolving door Dukakis, etc.)

     7)    keep a media exposure diary

     8)    try to isolate yourself from all media during a day

     9)    write letters to companies or networks and send them; see what replies you get

     10)  analyze sitcom common plots and characters

     11)   count characters according to age, gender, or race.

     12)  check which songs get radio airplay

     13) assess the effectiveness of a particular ad campaign, or, by using ads from various years, see how the  marketing of a given product has changed over time

     14) ) Use websites to investigate the "Paul McCartney is dead" hoax(?).  Do a "google" search for "Paul is dead", and see what you get.  Answer the question: Is Paul dead?  Evaluate the sites in your analysis.
