VA's FAR OUT 4TH QUARTER GOING-OUT-OF-BUSINESS SALE
Everything has to go, so . . . . For another whole 2 points each:
THE GRAPES OF WRATH (John Ford's screen version of the great John Steinbeck novel of the Okies and Dust Bowl of the 1930s. Starring Henry Fonda as Tom Joad. One of the great films of all time.) Due by mid-quarter.
THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES (A super film--studded with subtle insights. World War Ii veterans trying to readjust to civilian life after the war. Came out in 1946. A real classic, not very often seen anymore. A must for any serious student of 20th century U. S. history.) Due by mid-quarter.
MISSISSIPPI BURNING (Gene Hackman, William Dafoe. Incredibly intense drama. 1960s. Deep South. Civil Rights Movement. K.K.K. F.B.I. What more do you need? Don't miss it if you can!) Due by the end of the quarter.
DR. STRANGELOVE (Stanley Kubrick's black comedy masterpiece, with Peter Sellers and George C. Scott. Cold War paranoia of the early 1960s. Erie parallels to actual historical events of the period.) Due by the end of the quarter.
Same as last time: reviews have to be a minimum of 500 words, or 2-3 word-processed pages. Be penetrating! Analyze each film--its strengths and weaknesses. Don't just summarize. Don't wait until the last minute, for Pete's sake.
