Country “Cost of Development” Paper OUTLINE Format
1)
Introduction/Thesis: This should be a clear statement of your
answer to the question: “As
African nations struggle to compete with the developed, or "first,"
world, what have been the costs of
development for the people of (your country's name)?” AND should include a
summary of the FIVE main points you
will argue in your paper. Don’t go into
detail about these points, but describe them with one concrete example.
For example: “Since gaining it’s
independence from Great Britain, Jamaica still doesn’t have complete control of
their bauxite deposits, one of their most valuable natural resources, since
American companies like Reynolds and Alcoa still take most of the profits from
these bauxite mines.”
For STAGE II, you should revise and
rewrite your intro after receiving your first draft back this week
2) Supporting Point – These
paragraphs (5-6, or 7, or 8 – however many you need) are the body of your
paper. You should elaborate on each of
the points introduced in your Thesis Paragraph, spending a Body Paragraph on
each point. Make sure you have
supporting evidence from your research and footnote whenever necessary.
i) Thesis Sentence –
Clearly identify “cost.”
ii) Fact/Example as
evidence.
iii) Fact/Example as
evidence.
iv) Fact/Example as
evidence.
v) Concluding
Sentence – Restate thesis.

7) Final Supporting Point – Save your best
for last!
8) Conclusion:
i) You should restate
your thesis. DON”T USE SAME WORDS, but
remind the reader of what you are trying to prove, and
ii) bring the reader beyond
what you have covered. For example - “In spite of American control
