African Country “Cost of Development” Paper OUTLINE Format

1)      Introduction/Thesis:  This should be a clear statement of your answer to the question: “As African nations struggle to compete with the developed, or "first," world, what have been the costs of development for the people of (your country's name)?”  AND should include a summary of the FIVE main points you will argue in your paper.  Don’t go into detail about these points, but describe them with one concrete example.

For example: “Since gaining it’s independence from Great Britain, Jamaica still doesn’t have complete control of their bauxite deposits, one of their most valuable natural resources, since American companies like Reynolds and Alcoa still take most of the profits from these bauxite mines.”

For STAGE II, you should revise and rewrite your intro after receiving your first draft back this week

2)      Supporting Point – These paragraphs (5-6, or 7, or 8 – however many you need) are the body of your paper.  You should elaborate on each of the points introduced in your Thesis Paragraph, spending a Body Paragraph on each point.  Make sure you have supporting evidence from your research and footnote whenever necessary.
