Be Prepared!

If, in fact, you hope to thrive,
Then come to class prepared to strive.
For TRUTH, is where the greats will lead us,
But only if when you read, you CUSS!

Be Inquisitive!

Oh please, never let a thought pass you by,
That isn't challenged with the great question "WHY?"
If with others' ideas you too readily agree,
You might end up with a "C" or a "D."

Be Logical!

It is often thought that the way to convince
Is to speak so loud that the others will wince!
But the truth is well known that your argument will stick
If you meet their loud words with simple LOGIC.

Week of September 18

Be On Time!

An hour to you may seem so long
But to me every minute is precious.
So please don't dawdle with the rest of the throng,
Who may make you arrive tardy and breathless!

Be an Active Participant!

To be actively engaged in dialectic
Especially when you are prepared.
And I don't mean the kind that's eclectic,
So, to this challenge you are dared,

Be Respectful

When a noble classmate contributes
Be sure to show your respect,
Since we all bring our own attributes
To them would be to neglect!

Week of September 25

Be Serene

I know the work can bring us to our knees,
Especially when we're beat.
But don't forget the tortoise and Achilles
Zeno reports they finished in a dead heat!

Be True to Yourself

There are lots of things we're told to embrace
As we struggle through our existence.
Socrates made a very strong case,
"Be true to yourself," with persistence!

Question Everything!

Just when you thought you've got it all figured out
And those those ideas take form in your head.
We can look to the Master who ever did shout,
"Everything is becoming, nothing," Plato said.
