This Day In History

The 2007-08 History Film Series

This year's theme for the history film series will focus on biopics or biographical pictures.  This genre of film has been present from the birth of the moving image.  The department has chosen to focus on biopics covering lesser known figures as well as those films which can be viewed in around two hours.  Great biopics exist for Gandhi, Malcolm X, General Patton, etc and although spectacular, these films are lengthy and the individuals portrayed are better known by our students.  We've tried to cover various regions and/or histories.  Michael Collins works best for European history students while those taking World or US history will benefit from The Killing Fields.  Ninth grade World Cultures students should not miss The Last King of Scotland.  Finally, US students covering Post World WW II history would do well to check in on Silkwood in the Spring time.
