Born in New Orleans, 1859. Died of Yellow Fever, along with Judith Coldfield, at Sutpen's Hundred in 1884. Son of Charles Bon and a black lady/mistress. Charles Etienne, the son of Charles Bon, who like his father, was an unwanted son. Charles first appears in 1870, when he mysteriously arrives at Sutpen's Hundred. In 1871, Clytie went to New Orleans to find Charles so that he could live at Sutpen's Hundred permanently. In 1879, Charles Etienne De Saint Valery Bon married a black woman as one of his ways to rebel against his family. Charles was a violent, aggressive man, as he showed late in the story. He rebels against everything the family represents. He does not live to see his thirtieth birthday. |
