1. Examine the concept of courage as presented in this work.  How does O'Brien define courage?  Are there examples of characters who display this type of courage?

2.  This work is somewhat autobiographical in nature.  Are there instances in which O'Brien highlights his own failure to display courage?

3.  This work is a collection of short stories, but the stories follow a generally linear timeline.  Where does our main character begin?  Where does he end?  What does he learn along the way?
