The Soul Selects Her Own Society
(#303)

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)

The soul selects her own Society ¾

Then ¾ shuts the Door ¾

             To her divine Majority ¾

             Present no more¾

Unmoved – she notes the Chariots - pausing¾

             At her low Gate ¾

Unmoved – an Emperor be kneeling

              Upon her Mat ¾

I’ve known her – from an ample nation ¾

             Choose One ¾

Then – close the Valves of her attention ¾

             Like Stone
