The
Brunswick Varsity sailing team is back in 2005 looking stronger than
ever. The team is led by a great group of seniors: Andrew Hotchkiss,
captain, Charlie Ill, also a captain, Ed Steinborn, and Cam Bell round
out the senior class. Junior Phil Muhr, two returning sophomores Chris
O'Reilly and Casey Kinney, a new sophomore Ben Epstein, and a group of 4
freshman Miles Archer, David and Michael Levy, and Ryan Kinner round out
the rest of the roster.
On
Thursday, the team traveled to Noroton Yacht Club to take on Darien High
School. After an hour of dealing with untimely wind shifts the race
committee was able to get off the first race, and after the dust had
settled, Brunswick won the first race despite numerous fouls and
protests. The wind, which picked up over the course of the afternoon,
facilitated a second and third race, which were sailed in a cleaner
fashion and were both Brunswick victories (1-3-4 and 1-2-4,
respectively); meaning Brunswick won the series 3-0. Brunswick looks
forward to its biggest rivals (GHS) on Friday, followed by what looks to
be an exciting regatta against Portsmouth Abbey. The team also looks to
defend its title as the champions of the Fairfield County Sailing
Association (FCSL).
